How Does Absa Funeral Cover Work

The cover starts when you pay your first premium.

You can add up to 8 extended family members to your funeral plan as long as they are younger than 75 years.

 The cover works if you and your spouse are between 18 and 70 years and for children younger than 70 years. 

For two people, you can get a cover of up to R100 000, assuming it’s you and your spouse.

Extended family and your children can get a cover of up to R50 000.

You cannot claim the first six months of taking the cover unless you are replacing a similar cover from elsewhere.

If suicide happens in the first 12 months of the cover, the funeral will not be covered.

If the death is accidental, you will be covered from day one of payment.

The cover also includes death from covid-19.

The corpse will be transported to the nearest funeral home at no additional cost.

  • A completed claim form
  • Notification of death
  • Copy of certified death certificate 
  • A certified copy of the claimant’s identity document if they were not the main policyholder.
  • Certified copy of deceased identity document
  • Completed police report if the death was from unnatural causes
  • Proof of banking not older than three months if payments were made to any other bank
  • A letter of authority where no beneficiary is noted.

An accessor will evaluate your claim and notify you of the outcome.

Payment of claims is made to your bank account.
